NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream – A Hit or Miss?

NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream
NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream ($9.00 CA)

I am always on the look out for drugstore lipsticks, lip creams, stains, etc etc. So when I came across NYX’s Soft Matte Lip Cream’s I thought I had hit a jackpot!

I swatched them on my hand when I was in the drug store and I thought I liked what I saw. The colours were not as true to the bottle as I thought they would be, but I thought it could make them work.

When I started using them in every day scenario’s, I was disappointed with the lip creams. I thought they would be a great alternative to liquid lipsticks, as they wouldn’t dry out your lips as much as others would. They don’t dry them out, but they accentuate any fine lines, cracks or dry skin on your lips – no matter what the colour.

The lightest shade, Cairo,  at least on me, gave me “concealer lips”, and pretty much the same with the colour Athens. I tried mixing the two together and it still didn’t work out.

The two pinker colours worked out a bit better. The lighter pink, Antwerp, is very vibrant. It is not a winter colour and I would really only wear it if I were super tanned – which I did, and it came off immediately. These lip creams don’t wear for very long.

Finally, the darkest pink, San Paulo, gave me a little bit of faith as I am a die hard for dusty rose and rose coloured lips, but again, it just didn’t work out for me. I mean, it is okay, but it wouldn’t be the first one I would reach for to wear.

I did, however, buy the NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick ($9.00-$14.00 depending where you buy). They are great! I purchased one in the colour Sandstorm, but because of their popularity, a lot of the more dusty pink ones were sold out. The next one I want to purchase is Tea and Cookies ! They wear really well, but they take a little bit to dry, so be patient. But once they dry, they are great! They don’t dry out your lips and their colours are true to the bottle. Here is a picture of me wearing the NYX Liquid Suede in Sandstorm.

Therefore, I recommend the NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipsticks, but the Soft Matte Lip Creams just didn’t do it for me. I will keep them in my collection and on occasion I will try to wear them, but I think there are better NYX lip products out there. Like the Liquid Suede. I have actually heard that their Butter Gloss collection is awesome, but I have never tried it. That will be my next NYX lip purchase!

  1. I had the same problem with the soft matte lip cream. My lips looked super dry and cracked–horrible. With the nude (Abu Dhabi) it wasn’t as noticeable. I didn’t find them that long wearing, either. I much prefer the nyx matte lipsticks. I was afraid to try the nyx liquid suede because of how bad the soft matte lip cream experience was, but if you’ve had a good experience I will give it a try! Great post!

  2. I also have Antwerp and Toyko, both on the lighter side that didn’t look good on me. The bold shades like Addis Ababa(somethinglikethat) and Prague are really beautiful on. Nyx Suede is definitely similar formula without the vanilla cupcake scent. My favorite Nyx lippies is their Intense Lip Butters in Toasted Marshmallow, and Chocolate crepe.

  3. Everyone always raves about the Soft Matte Lip Cream. I never bought one, because I found the swatches to be too translucent and patchy. Fascinating that the Liquid Suede formula is better. I was wondering what made them different. Good to know! Nice article 🙂

  4. Ah, they’re used to be s my fav liquid lipcolour. Not becuase it’s quality, since 2015 they sell out for about $15 each in Indonesia which is overpriced and kinda overrated. Fortunately there’s a lot of cheaper dupes of it 😉
